The Rowland Unified School District began the school year a little early this year. Students returned to local schools bright and early Aug. 27.
Many schools were festooned with banners and balloons, welcoming families back. At Killian Elementary School, families found a carnival atmosphere.
Front and center was a shiny new PT Cruiser donated by Superior Motors. Principal Susan Halliday said the vehicle was being raffled off to raise money for the school.
Though Halliday's summer holiday was over, the principal was ecstatic about the beginning of school.
"I love being here with the kids," the enthusiastic school administrator explained.
