Rowland Water District Congratulates Local Students on Artwork Selection

(Rowland Heights, CA, December 18, 2012) – Two local high school students were honored by Metropolitan Water District and Rowland Water District (RWD) for their entries in the 2013 "Water is Life" Calendar contest. The art of eleventh graders Kimberly Smith and Esmeralda Barajas, both from Nogales High School in La Puente, will be included in Metropolitan’s annual calendar.

"They're amazingly talented, and I'm excited to see them blossom into beautiful young people," said Karyn Villa, Nogales High School teacher who accompanied the winners to a recognition luncheon at Metropolitan’s Headquarters at Union Station.

Judges selected 36 student posters from 162 entries from K-12 grade students across the state. In addition to being included in the 2013 calendar, the posters will also be showcased in a traveling tour throughout California.

“This contest is a great way for us to include our young customers and their families in water education as we spread the word about the importance of reliable water in our community,” said Ken Deck, RWD General Manager. “We are extremely proud to have two winners in our District.”

As one of Metropolitan’s retail agencies, RWD delivers high-quality water from northern California to approximately 58,000 people in southeast Los Angeles County including portions of Rowland Heights, Hacienda Heights, La Puente and the cities of Industry and West Covina.
