ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – SEPTEMBER 23, 2026 -- Rowland Unified School District Superintendent Alejandro (Alex) Flores was honored as one of 12 Latino leaders at Los Angeles County Board Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis' annual Hispanic Heritage Month Reception, held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration in downtown Los Angeles. The event recognized honorees for their work in government, education, health care, civic engagement and community service.

Solis, who has hosted the reception throughout her nearly 12 years on the Board of Supervisors, celebrated her final Hispanic Heritage Month as First District Supervisor at this year's event.

“Every year, this reception gives me the opportunity to recognize people who are making a difference in the First District, and this year's honorees represent the many ways our residents are serving and strengthening their communities,” said Board Chair Solis. “As I celebrate my final Hispanic Heritage Month as First District supervisor, I am proud to honor their work and the example they set for the next generation.”

Flores was recognized alongside David Martinez, Chairman of the Buckboard Days Parade Committee, which organizes the annual Rowland Heights parade, as well as L.A. Care Health Plan CEO Martha Santana-Chin, El Monte City Manager Alma Martinez, Studio-MLA Founder Mia Lehrer, Whittier City School District Board President Dr. Jennifer Sandoval and other leaders across the region.

“I am honored to receive this recognition from Supervisor Solis and to share the stage with David Martinez, whose work on Buckboard Days celebrates the heart of Rowland Heights,” said Flores. “Our students, families and staff are part of that same hometown tradition, and this acknowledgment belongs to them.”

Flores has served Rowland Schools for over a decade, including nine years as Deputy/Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, and became superintendent in July 2024.
