ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – June 18, 2015 – Summer Learning in Action! More than 100 GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) 4th through 6th grade students from across the Rowland Unified School District are learning the art of debate. Tomorrow, Friday, June 19 from 8:30 a.m. – Noon, is the final culmination day of  a special two-week course where students have studied public speaking and critical thinking skills that help them to think quickly and accurately, become self-reliant and learn valuable leadership skills. The fundamentals of argumentation, refutation and speaking with confidence have been discussed as students prepare to debate on several topics centered around School Uniforms, Cost of Living and Laws Pertaining to Motorcyclists.

The classes are being held at Jellick Elementary by educators from the New England Academy. The course was so popular, a second session with 66 GATE students begins on Monday, June 22 and runs Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon through July 6, 2015.
