Youth Science Center Essay Contest Winner An Oswalt Eagle Again

For the past 7 years the Youth Science Center has held a STEM essay contest for 3rd-12th graders in the neighboring districts of Hacienda Heights and Rowland Heights.

This year’s theme was “Harnessing Natural Resources.” Oswalt Academy 8th grader Alyssa Tran won the middle school division award for her essay entitled “Algae Biofuel.”  In her essay, Alyssa presented ways to utilize science, technology, engineering, and math to harness algae as a renewable biofuel resource that may one day be the chief producer of energy for our world.

Alyssa hopes to one day become a biochemist and put her knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to good use.
