Rowland Unified is committed to preparing students for college and career and invites all of its families to attend the annual District College Fair on Wednesday, September 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nogales High School. Families can learn how to navigate the college admission process and can visit college booths with representatives from UC, Cal State, private colleges and universities. Helpful workshops will be offered about financial aid, how to submit college applications, SAT/ACT, A-G graduation requirements and more. There will be a free book giveaway for all students who attend, along with student entertainment and food trucks.

            Courtesy Transportation: Nogales High School is located at 401 S. Nogales Street in La Puente, 91744. Free transportation will be provided to the event. Buses will leave from Rowland High School at 5 p.m. (located at 2000 S. Otterbein Avenue, in Rowland Heights, 91748).

EVENT WORKSHOPS FOR FAMILIES:

College Ready for Middle School Parents (ENGLISH & SPANISH): This informational session offered in English and Spanish will increase parents’ awareness of how to begin the college planning process. Topics include: steps in building an academic foundation, creating an academic plan and the parents’/guardians’ role. Esta sesión informativa aumentará la conciencia de cómo comenzar el proceso de planificación universitaria. Los temas incluyen: pasos en la construcción de una fundación académica, la creación de un plan académico y el papel de los padre/tutores.
 
Financial Aid 101: Introduction to the four types of aid, breakdown of cost of education and how families can apply for FAFSA or California Dream Act. Session offered in English and Spanish. Introducción a los cuatro tipos de ayuda financiera, y un explicacion de el costo de educación  y como su familia puede aplicar a la FAFSA or California Dream Act.
 
Overview of California College Systems: Students and parents will be provided with a general overview of the different college systems that are offered in California including the UC, CSU, Private and California Community College systems.  Information on admission requirements, location of campuses, GPA eligibility and more will be explained.
 
Graduation Requirements vs A-G Requirements.  The differences between graduation requirements and college admission requirements will be explained in length to parents and students.  Subject and grade requirements for graduation and college admission will be discussed as well as the importance of a student’s GPA.
 
College Calendar: Important dates for students and parents to be aware of including college application deadlines, financial aid deadlines, SAT/ACT test dates, when to request a transcript and more.
