It was a lovely day.
All the teachers were very lovey-dovey, all glad to have the kids back for a new school year.
Many like second-grade teacher Cindy Kim couldn't resist giving the youngsters a big welcome-back hug on Aug. 25.
The students at Blandford Elementary School were all especially anxious to meet the new principal, "Mrs. Lovely."
Actually her name is Mercedes Lovie, but when you're a 5-year-old kindergartner "Lovely" is as close as many could get.
And so the "lovely" principal begins her new life. Last month she got married, this month she starts her new job in the Rowland Unified School District.
"It's been a very good year," the blonde administrator admitted.
Lovie comes from South Pasadena Middle School, where she was principal for four years.
During her tenure there, Lovie helped increase instructional time by more than two hours a week.
"I found some extra time in the schedule and worked with the staff and PTA to add more teaching time," Lovie said.
She is also an adjunct professor in the Educational Leadership Program at Point Loma Nazarene University.
