How many lives have you saved?

Teachers aren't firemen. Nor are they doctors or policemen.

But they are catalysts who direct our children to many of these life-saving roles.

"We'll give you the scientists, lawyers, mothers and fathers of tomorrow. We will give you the American dream," says Lily Eskelsen, vice president of the National Education Association.

Eskelsen flew in from Washington D.C. to kick off the new school year in the Rowland Unified School District. The NEA official addressed district teachers at a rally in the Industry Expo Center on Aug. 19.
