The freshmen launched water balloons at each other with giant slingshots on the baseball diamond at Nogales High School.
Juan Aparicio scored a direct hit on Daniel Morales, drenching him in his school clothes. Laughing, the 14-year-olds walked toward the elephant and Round Up rides.
"I don't mind getting wet, I have water polo practice later anyways," Morales noted.
The two buddies were joining the rest of the La Puente school as they enjoyed the carnival.
"We wanted to thank them for their perfect attendance during the seven days of state testing," said Principal Nancy Padilla.
Padilla started the carnival last year as an incentive for the students.
