OSWALT ACADEMY NAMED NATIONAL APPLE DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL FOR 8th CONSECUTIVE YEAR FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE

WALNUT, CA MARCH 7, 2016 – Stanley G. Oswalt Academy in the Rowland Unified School District has been named a national “Apple Distinguished School” for the eighth consecutive year. Recognized for its exemplary learning environment for innovation, leadership and educational excellence, the two year designation is for 2015-2017.

Oswalt Academy has more than 500 one-to-one laptops in grades 5-8 that are parent funded and in use daily. The school has continued to expand its technology-infused learning in grades TK-4 with the use of more than 300 iPads and iPod Touches in the classrooms.

The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools like Oswalt that integrate Apple technology in education and showcase visionary leadership in creating successful 21st Century teaching and learning environments.

Since initiating the Laptop for Learning program in 2008, Oswalt has transformed the school. “Students learn in a different way than in the past. Using technology, students can demonstrate their learning in a multitude of ways. Having students learn using 21st century skills has drastically improved the rigor of both student research, as well as student engagement,” said Principal Kevin Despard. “I love walking into classes on a daily basis and seeing students engaged in complex learning tasks that require an extensive use of technology to have students reach a greater depth of knowledge.”
