Sarah Whitmore Named New Principal of Shelyn Elementary

ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – JANUARY 23, 2008  The Board of Education of the Rowland Unified School District (RUSD) approved the appointment of Sarah Whitmore as Principal of Shelyn Elementary. Whitmore has been in RUSD since 2004, serving as Vice Principal at Rorimer Elementary. Shelyn staff welcomed her with flowers at the Board of Education meeting last night, where it was announced she would begin her new role as principal today.

Whitmore partnered in the design and assisted with implementation and monitoring of Rorimer’s 2-Way Language Immersion Program.  She also collaborated in the grant writing and planning of the grand opening for the school’s new Wonder of Reading Library.

Prior to RUSD, Whitmore came from Ontario-Montclair School District, where she began as a second, third and 5th grade teacher to English speakers and transitional students. As a Project Administrator of Extended Learning, she served as a facilitator for the Gifted and Talented Education (G.A.T.E.) program, was a member of the District Leadership team and wrote and managed grants for After School Safe Neighborhoods and 21st Century Learning Center programs.

Whitmore received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Sciences from University of California, Berkeley and her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Chapman University.
