A signing ceremony was held at Rowland High School on Friday to congratulate Senior Michael Wang, who accepted a swimming scholarship to UC Santa Barbara. Students and staff filled the Hideout and watched as he signed the official letter. “I want to thank Michael’s parents for dropping him off here at the old pool when he was 10 years old – It’s been a long journey and he has worked extremely hard,” said Coach Mike Cody, who has been his coach since the beginning. “This year we have the new pool, a new league, a new division and we are proud of Michael who rewrote the record board last year -- those are not easy records to break. He has been a joy to coach.”
“I want to thank my parents for dropping me off at practice every day, especially my Mom for waking me up early and driving me to morning practices. I would especially like to thank my Coach who would always give up vacation days just so he could stay here and train me.” Michael received offers from both Penn State and UC Santa Barbara. When asked what made him choose UC Santa Barbara he said, “It’s by the beach, it’s a beautiful campus, beautiful weather and beautiful people, too! I loved the atmosphere and it is the right fit for me.”
