Making a Splash! New Rowland High School Aquatics Center Opening July 30

The Rowland Unified School District is making a splash to celebrate construction completion of its new Rowland High School Aquatics Center. The VIP Opening Ceremony is Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. that will include district dignitaries, swim and water polo coaches, and senior students who hope to take their first “dive” in the pool.

More than 1,650,000 pounds of concrete was poured and 367,828 gallons of water fills the expanded 12- lane pool that can now host CIF competitions. The $5 million dollar aquatic facility features a new plaza entrance with a concrete design of water droplets, eight outdoor showers, public restrooms and changing facilities for teams, a new digital score board and exterior lighting for evening events, an ample spectator viewing area with shade shelter and bleachers, and infrastructure built-in for future solar technology. Construction of the 7,483 square foot pool and expanded new center began on October 15, 2013 to replace the aging 40 year plus old pool that is a hallmark of the community. The Rowland High School pool is used by180,000 people each year due to its popular community recreation and swim programs, and swimming and water polo leagues.

Rowland High School will host public tours of the new Aquatics Center when school re-opens at its Back to School Night on August 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. and for the community at its “50th Jubilee” celebration on Friday, September 26 with student-led campus tours for the community of its new buildings and aquatics center beginning at 3:15 p.m. For more information visit www.rowlandhs.org
