RUSD Board of Education Leadership Appointments

RUSD News…   8/14/13 Rowland Unified School District Board of Education Meeting Appointments:

 ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – AUGUST 14, 2013  –  The Rowland Unified School District (RUSD) Board of Education met last night and approved the following District leadership positions that are effective today. More than 40 teachers and administrators took advantage of a retirement incentive that was offered in June. The 2013-14 school year begins on Monday, August 19, 2013. 

Ms. Teresa M. Healy, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services

Ms. Healy comes to RUSD with a great deal of experience in the area of Educational Services. She has served as an Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in Barstow Unified, where she was a leader among her colleagues in the area.  She has served successfully in the capacity of teacher, coordinator and administrator at the intermediate and secondary levels.  She has served as chief author of LEA plans, directed various title and grant programs including but not limited to AVID, title II, IV, AP Challenge, Science, etc.  Healy has also conducted numerous training activities in the area of Curriculum and Instruction and directed the transition to Common Core State Standards.  She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling.  

Dr. Jeanette C. Rodriguez-Chien, Executive Director of Educational Services

Dr. Chien has served as the Director of Special Projects and GATE since 2011 in RUSD.  She has been instrumental in the implementation of the transition to Common Core State Standards and RUSD’s new format for the Single Plan for Student Achievement.  She has been effective at utilizing quantitative and qualitative data to positively affect our instructional program implementation.  Chien has served as a principal here in Rowland and in LAUSD.  She has also served as a teacher, Categorical Program Advisor and Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University.  Her credentials include a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from California State University Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Alvarado Intermediate in Rowland Heights

Mr. Scott Mooney, Assistant Principal of Alvarado

Mr. Mooney has had number of years in the field of education.  He has great diversity in his experience within the field.  He has served in the capacity of Teacher, Coach, Foreign English Expert in Vietnam, and Assistant Principal. He has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from California Polytechnic University, Pomona and a Bachelors’ in Mechanical Engineering.

Giano Intermediate in West Covina

Mr. Carlos Ochoa, Principal of Giano

Mr. Ochoa has been with the Rowland Unified family since the beginning of his career in the field of education.  He served as an Instructional Assistant, Teacher, Program Specialist, Learning Director and Interim Principal.  During that time he has been honored as the Certificated Employee of the Year, Los Angeles County Bilingual Directors Association Outstanding Administrator, and received the American Literacy Award.  His credentials includes a Master’s Degree in Education from California Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Curriculum and Instruction emphasis, and a Bachelor of Art Degree from the University of California, Irvine in Sociology with a minor in Spanish Literature.

Hurley Elementary in La Puente

Dr. Angela L. Campbell, Assistant Principal/Coordinator of Student Achievement of Hurley

Dr. Campbell has worked in the field of education in a wide variety of capacities.  She has worked closely with parents regarding student expectations, conducted various training activities related to state testing and coordinated federal programs.  She has served in the capacity of Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Director.  She has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University, a Master’s Degree in Education from National University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from California State University, Northridge.

Nogales High School

Dr. Sergio Canal, Principal of NHS

Dr. Canal has been in the field of education for approximately 13 years.  He has great deal of experience in the area of curriculum.  He has served in the capacity of Instructional Assistant, Teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal at the Intermediate and Secondary levels.  Throughout his career, his focus has always been developing collaborative ways to maintain a student centered approach to education.  His credentials include a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Los Angeles.  We look forward to the high level of dedication and leadership that he brings to Nogales High School.

Dr. Brandon D. Martinez, Assistant Principal of NHS

Dr. Martinez comes to us with an exemplary background in education.  He has designed curriculum for Doctoral and MAT courses.  He has also coordinated and conducted several professional development workshops. He has served as a Teacher at the secondary level, Dean, Assistant Principal, and Assistant Professor at the university level.  His credentials includes a Doctorate Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California, a Master’s of Science Degree in Educational Leadership from California State University, Fullerton, a Masters of Arts Degree in English Literature from California State University, Fullerton, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Southern California. 

Northam Elementary

Ms. Celia E. Munguia, Principal of Northam

Ms. Munguia has been a part of the Rowland family for quite some time.  She has served in the capacity of Teacher, Program Specialist and Learning Director.  She has successfully coordinated the Williams text book and facilities inspections, supervised school wide Program Improvement Plan, Safety Plan, and Discipline Plan to name a few of her accomplishments.  She is a hard worker and is able to clearly communicate her vision for effective instructional practices.  Her credentials include a Master’s Degree in Education from California Polytechnic University, Pomona and a Bachelor’s Degree in Merchandising from California State University, Los Angeles. 

Mr. Steve Stahl, Coordinator of Student Achievement of Northam

Mr. Stahl has served in the field of education for many years.  He has served as a teacher at both the elementary and the intermediate levels.  He has also served as a Teacher on Special Assignment in Technology and Administrator in Charge.  He has a Master’s Degree in Education Administration form Concordia University and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in History from California State University, Los Angeles.

Rorimer Elementary

Ms. Joyce Garcia, Assistant Principal/Coordinator of Student Achievement of Rorimer

Ms. Garcia has been a part of the Rowland family for quite some time.  She has served in the capacity of Teacher at various grade levels, Cotsen Mentor, Literacy Coach, Program Specialist, and Learning Director.  She has also been recognized as Teacher of the Year at Rorimer in 2011.  She has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from California Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Villacorta Elementary

Ms. Elvira Gutzwiller, Assistant Principal/Coordinator of Student Achievement of Villacorta

Ms. Gutzwiller has served in the field of education for approximately 18 years.  She has served as a teacher at various levels which includes both elementary and intermediate.  She has also served as a Dean of Students.  She has developed and facilitated various professional development activities centering on student learning.  She has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from California State University, Northridge.

Ybarra Academy of Arts and Technology

Mr. Ryan Weiss-Wright, Assistant Principal

Mr. Wright has been a part of our Rowland family for a period of time.  He has provided teacher support for our Online Assessment Reporting Systems, behavior education program coordinator and ParentLink lead trainer.  He has served in the capacity of Teacher and as an Interim Principal.  He is currently working on his Doctorate at University of Southern California.  He has Masters in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Azusa Pacific University.

Yorbita Elementary

Ms. Sylvia Cadena, Principal of Yorbita

Ms. Cadena has had approximately 16 years of diverse experiences in the field of education.  She has been a part of Rowland for her entire career within the field.  She has served as an Instructional Assistant, Teacher, Literacy Coach, and Assistant Principal.  She is adept at identifying goals and objectives for the development of effective programs. Her credentials include a Master’s Degree in Administrative Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from California State University, Pomona.

Ms. Amy Grigsby, Assistant Principal/Coordinator of Student Achievement of Yorbita

Ms. Grigsby is another Rowland native who has provided various training activities focusing on student learning in our district.  She has served in the capacity of Teacher, Program Specialist, and Teacher on Special Assignment.  She has been instrumental in helping to create the design for Checkpoints revisions and Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium introduction.  She has a Master’s Degree in Education and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from California Polytechnic University, Pomona.
