"Heart and Sole" Event for 125 RUSD Children This Friday - Feb. 10

“HEART AND SOLE” EVENT FOR 125 CHILDREN IN NEED

FEBRUARY 10

FEBRUARY 8, 2012 -- LA PUENTE, CA –- Kiwanis Club of Hacienda Heights and the surrounding community has a big heart… and will delight 125 children in need with an early Valentine’s Day gift: a new pair of shoes, socks and a goodie bag with a book to take home this Friday, February 10, at 2:30 p.m. The elementary children are from schools across the Rowland Unified School District (in the cities of La Puente, West Covina and Rowland Heights) and were pre-selected based on need. The “Heart and Sole” event will be held at the Rowland Unified School District Family Resource Center, located at 17800 E. Renault Street in La Puente.

“It has been very gratifying and so much fun picking out the shoes for this event,” said Dave Malkin, Kiwanis Club member and organizer of the event. “I want all different shoes so the kids can choose and pick their style. Every kid gets a letter if they don’t like the color, or it doesn’t fit right, our wonderful vendor Ashika Shoes in the Puente Hills Mall will exchange them.”  The Kiwanis Club of Hacienda Heights is a local chapter of the national Shoes That Fit organization (www.shoesthatfit.org). Malkin says the difference is that since their chapter has a direct vendor, 100% of the funds raised goes directly to purchasing the shoes locally.

The “Heart and Sole” event is made possible by generous donations and support by various community groups, including the Rowland Heights Senior Pathfinders, Southlands School, Ingrid Bernabe Bible Study Group and Ashika Shoes in the Puente Hills Mall.
