The Personnel Commission is a public body responsible for the administration of a merit system which oversees the selection, retention and promotion of classified (non-teaching) employees in the public school system.  It is composed of three members from the local community appointed for three-year terms with the term of one member expiring each year. The governing board of the school district appoints one member to the Personnel Commission.  The classified employees of the school district nominate one member of the Personnel Commission who is then appointed by the governing Board.  The two members of the Personnel Commission then appoint a third member.

Each Personnel Commissioner receives the sum of $50.00 for each meeting attended in any one month and other fringe benefits.  Personnel Commission meetings are normally held on the first Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m.

To qualify as a Personnel Commissioner, all of the following criteria must be met: Be a registered voter and resident within the Rowland Unified School District boundaries; Be a known adherent to the principle of the merit system and support the concept of employment, continuance in employment, in-service promotional opportunities and other related maters on the basis of merit and fitness; Not a member of the governing board of any school district or county board of education or an employee of the district.

Letters of interest should include: Application for appointment to Personnel Commission; Reason for interest in the position; Qualifications for the appointment and experience; and Participation in School District and community activities. Further questions regarding the process can be directed to Superintendent Maria G. Ott at (626) 965-2541, Ext. 8303.  For questions regarding activities and responsibilities of the Personnel Commission, call Personnel Director Richard Moore at (626) 854-8380.
