OSWALT ACADEMY APPLE LAPTOP LEARNING PROGRAM 5th GRADE ROLL OUT TOMORROW NIGHT

WALNUT, CA – SEPTEMBER 1, 2010 –  Incoming 5th graders at Oswalt Academy are excited to receive their new Apple Laptop computers tomorrow night, September 2, at the Oswalt Laptop Learning Roll Out Night. A total of 130 laptops will be distributed at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 5th grade families, that will provide students with around-the-clock access to software and educational tools for 24/7 learning. This is the third year of the innovative program, with more than 500 laptops on campus for students in 5th - 8th grade. Students in grades K-4 are using the iPod touch to increase reading fluency, reading comprehension and the attainment of standards-based skills.
In a short amount of time, the school has seen dramatic academic growth and was just honored with the “Apple Distinguished School” award.

Each MacBook laptop computer is pre-loaded with grade level textbooks and digital authoring applications, including iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, GarageBand, iDVD, and ComicLife. Each computer also has wireless connectivity and a built-in video camera and accessibility features like text-to-voice. Teachers also have ProScopes (a hand-held microscope) for science use. The Oswalt campus has WiFi throughout the school.

The Apple Laptop Learning Program is funded by parent purchases/multi-year leasing to own programs over three years, school fundraising, and community business support.

Oswalt Academy is a K-8 School, located at 19501 Shadow Oak Drive in Walnut. Oswalt Academy is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme, an international curriculum designed for students aged 3 to 12.
