ROWLAND STRINGS PROGRAM NOW ENROLLING STUDENTS

ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – AUGUST 26, 2010 -- Rowland Unified School District is now enrolling students in its award-winning Strings program for elementary, middle and high school students, as well as the District Honor Orchestra. This year the Rowland High School Orchestra and District Honor Orchestra will be directed by Mr. Jim Wang, a recent graduate from USC. The Rowland High School Orchestra is offering a class for credit during 8th period everyday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. This will include The District Honor Orchestra students, private/advanced students, and an opportunity for anyone who is interested in learning a string instrument. The Elementary Schools that the Strings Program is offered at are: Blandford, Hollingworth, Hurley, Jellick, Killian, Northam, Oswalt Academy, Villacorta and Ybarra Academy of the Arts and Technology.

Rowland Unified School District is committed to the arts and is one of the few Districts in the region to offer Instrumental Music in all of its elementary, middle and high schools. Elementary band and jazz band begins in 5th grade. The String Program begins in 4th grade and has grown to 8 elementary schools, 2 intermediate and both high schools. The Honor Orchestra features the top string students from all of the District schools, and has been invited to perform at the Regional Festival, representing the best music programs in all of Southern California.
