FIRST ANNUAL BLANDFORD FAMILY LATINO NIGHT PLANNED FOR OCT. 22
Community Invited to Experience Latino Food & Culture
ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – OCTOBER 19, 2009 – The families and community surrounding Blandford Elementary are invited to experience the school’s first Blandford Latino Night on Thursday, October 22 from 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The event is organized by a team of Blandford Latino teachers and the PTA, and will feature a taco truck and salsa tasting, Folklorico dancing and a musical trio, along with several cultural activities such as tortilla and sombrero making and papel picado (tissue paper banner art). There will also be an exhibit of Blandford family Latino owned artifacts on display by the country of origin.
            ”We have never had an event like this and we are thrilled by the level of participation from parents and the local businesses that have graciously donated to our event.  The excitement this event is creating among the teachers and families is quite evident, ” said Blandford PTA President Kimo Morris. “This is a chance for our Latin families to showcase their heritage and demonstrate their involvement in our community.”
 
            The Blandford Latino Night schedule of events are:
 
5 – 6 p.m.                   Taco truck and salsa tasting
           
6 – 6:30 p.m.             Performance by Y Arriba Mexico Ballet Folklorico and Acapulco Trio –Rafael Ramos
           
6:30 – 7:30 p.m.         The community can experience a variety of cultural activities in three 20 minute rotations that include mini piñatas, Aztec calendar, loteria, South American storytelling (with Mexican hot chocolate and pan dulce) maracas, Latin dancing and geography map coloring.
