Mobile Device Management - (MDM)

In order to efficiently support our district-adopted technology goals, the Technology Services department leverages a mobile device management (MDM) solution. This solution allows I.T. staff to provide rapid technical support to all mobile technological devices. While enrolled in our MDM, teachers are able to automatically connect to RUSD's wireless infrastructure, install district-approved applications, and control the features and look of their student devices based on district-identified standards. Currently, the Technology Services department mandates the enrollment of all district-provided Apple iPads, Apple TVs, and Apple MacBooks into the MDM solution. Optionally, the Technology Services department also supports the MDM enrollment of Apple iMacs when used in a lab configuration.

MDM Solution used within Rowland Unified is currently VMWare Workspace One, previously known as AirWatch and Mosyle Manager.

Supported Mobile Devices are Apple iPads running Apple iOS 14.7 and above, Apple MacBooks/iMacs running Apple macOS Catalina (10.15.7) and above, and Apple TV 3rd and 4th generation.

Supported Operating Systems

End-users of district-provided products may obtain technical support services from the RUSD Technology Services Department for the following operating system versions:

Microsoft Windows OS  -  Windows 8.1 and 10

Apple macOS  - OS 10.15.7 or later

Apple iOS  - IOS  14.7 or later

Google Chrome OS - Chrome 90 or later

Note: Once an operating system is no longer supported by the vendor, users need to migrate to a supported version as soon as possible as unsupported versions typically do not receive security updates, making the devices much more vulnerable to security breaches.

Vintage and Obsolete Products

Technology changes at a rapid rate and as such computing devices are typically designed for relatively short life-spans, frequently in the range of three to five years depending on the product.

However, end-users of district-provided products may obtain technical support from the RUSD Technology Services Department for up to 7 years after the product is no longer manufactured where this is practical. Technology has discontinued support for certain technologically obsolete and vintage products.

Technology may not be able to support a device, where support from the manufacturer may be required and is no longer available or the operating system or other software is no longer supported or compatible with that device.

Vintage products are those that have not been manufactured for more than 5 and less than 7 years ago. The Technology Services Department will continue to provide technical support services for vintage district-provided products where possible.

Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than 7 years ago. The Technology Services Department has discontinued technical support services for obsolete products with no exceptions. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products.
