Retirement Benefits

Are you considering retirement and don't know where to start?
Here is a roadmap to help you with the process.
  1. Contact STRS or PERS directly for information on your retirement income benefits.

  2. Complete the District Resignation Form, have your supervisor sign it, and return it to Ocean Wallin in the Human Resources office.
RETIREE HEALTH BENEFITS
Retirement  Health Benefits for Early Retirees (55-64 Years of Age)
You are eligible for District health, dental, and vision benefits at the same rate as an active employee if:
      • You are between the ages of 55 and 64 
      • Rendered 10 consecutive years of service with the District.  Benefits are provided for 7 years or until you turn 65 years of age.
      • Resign your position at the District and retire from CalSTRS or CalPERS within 120 days of each other.
 
 
Retirement  Health Benefits for Retirees (65 Years of Age or Older)
If you are 65 years old or older you must enroll in Medicare.  Medicare is available through CalPERS or various independent providers.
RETIREE DENTAL AND VISION BENEFITS
Retirement Dental and Vision for Early Retirees (55-64 Years of Age)
Early Retirees are eligible for District dental and vision benefits at the same rate as an active employee if:
      • You are between the ages of 55 and 64 
      • Rendered 10 consecutive years of service with the District.  Benefits are provided for 7 years or until you turn 65 years of age.
      • Resign your position at the District and retire from CalSTRS or CalPERS within 120 days of each other.
      • Please review the Dental & Vision rates and submit the Health Benefit Form to Risk Management.
Retirement Dental and Vision for Retirees (65 Years of Age or Older)
Retirees who have rendered 10 years of service with the District are eligible to continue their dental and vision coverage and pay the group discounted rate. You will be billed quarterly.  Please review the Dental & Vision rates and submit the Health Benefit Form to Risk Management.
SUPPLEMENTAL (VOLUNTARY) BENEFITS

METLIFE LIFE INSURANCE

At the time of employment, benefit-eligible employees are automatically enrolled in a district-funded life insurance policy with MetLife. Upon your resignation or retirement, you may be eligible to continue all or a portion of your group life insurance without completing the evidence of insurability through continuation, portability, or conversion by paying premiums directly to the life insurance company.

 

Policy Termination:

Employees who leave mid-year: The policy will terminate at the end of your last month worked.

Employees who leave at the end of the school year: The policy will end July 31st of that year. (Retirees who have completed the school year will be covered until July 31st)

 

You must request to continue coverage within 30 days from when your group coverage ends. Please contact the insurance company directly to discuss the options available to you.

AMERICAN FIDELITY (Flexible Spending Accounts & Other Insurance Products)

Your coverage under both the Health Flexible Spending Account and Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending account will terminate at the end of your employment. Expenses for services incurred after your termination date are not eligible for reimbursement.

 

Policy Termination:

Employees who leave mid-year: The policy will terminate at the end of your last month worked.

Employees who leave at the end of the school year: The policy will end July 31st of that year. (Retirees who have completed the school year will be covered until July 31st)

 

In addition, any supplemental Disability, Life or Texas Life insurance that you have enrolled in with American Fidelity will also terminate at the end of your employment. These plans can be converted and continued privately by contacting American Fidelity directly. A contact sheet that contains contact information for your representative is attached.

AIG ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT (AD & D)

Coverage will terminate at the end of your employment.  Please contact AIG within 31 days of your last day worked for the option to continue coverage on your own.
