Classes Start Week of April 11
ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – MARCH 28, 2011– Spring session registration is now taking place for the Rowland Recreation Department until classes are filled. There are many exciting classes for children including: Cartooning & Drawing, Piano, Drums, Guitar, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Karate, Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Ice Skating and more! Classes begin the week of April 11. Recreation Office hours are Monday-Thursday from 1 - 5 p.m. and Friday 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday registrations take place on April 2 and 9, from 9 a.m. -11 a.m. The Recreation Office is located at 2100 Lerona Avenue in Rowland Heights. Many new classes have been offered this Spring, including: Introduction to Flute, Introduction to the Recorder, Computer Graphics, Introduction to Journalism: Reading & Writing Articles, Introduction to Spanish, PSAT Prep Class and Beginning Hockey.
Introduction to Flute
In this fun class students will have the opportunity to learn basic flute techniques and skills. Both solo and ensemble playing will be explored.
Begins Tuesday April 12 and Thursday April 14
(Ages 7-9 Tuesdays 4-5 p.m. Ages 10-13 Tuesdays 5-6 p.m. OR 6-7 p.m. OR 7-8 p.m. or Thursdays 6-7 p.m.) (Ages 14 & up Thursdays 7-8 p.m.) Fee: $120 &$10 materials fee. Flute rentals available at Rowland Music.
PSAT Preparation Classes
Do you want to obtain spectacular scores on your PSAT? Two hours each week for a 6-week intensive learning will be devoted to all three sections. Materials will be provided for building the vocabulary, improving critical reading comprehension and written expression as well as the match sections.
Begins April 16 - May 21 (Ages 14-17 Saturdays 2-4 p.m.) Fee: $160
Introduction to Spanish
The new Introduction to Spanish course will help familiarize students with basic
Spanish grammar, vocabulary and conversation. This class will better prepare
students for their high school foreign language course. Students will also learn
about various Spanish-speaking countries and cultures.
Begins April 16 - May 21 (Ages 6-15 Saturdays 12-1 p.m.) Fee: $80
Introduction to Journalism: Reading & Writing Articles
This class promotes not only strong writing skills, but enhances students’ ability to multitask, to see problems/issues from multiple perspectives, and to be aware of current events and how to conduct research and interviews.
Begins April 16 - May 21 (Ages 10-15 Saturdays 1-2 p.m.) Fee: $80
