Rowland High Alumni Hall of Fame and Homecoming Football Game This Friday

School Rowland High School Alumni Hall of Fame Ceremony This Friday

The Rowland High School Alumni Hall of Fame Ceremony will be held this Friday, October 2, 2015 in the library at 5:30 p.m. and afterwards, inductees and guests will be attending the RHS Homecoming Football game.

Established in 1991, the Rowland High School Hall of Fame honors the outstanding success of former students. These graduates excel in their chosen fields of endeavor such as business, education, politics, military, sports, entertainment and arts, and/or have made significant contributions to society. “By spotlighting these alumni’s contributions, we hope to provide motivation for current students to excel. Nominations arrive from a variety of sources including staff, community members, students, family, and co-workers. Our inductees this year are Mr. Eric McGurn (Class of 1973), Dr. Bruce Rogers (Class of 1980), and Mr. Julian Dave White (Class of 1985),” said Rowland High School Principal Mitch Brunyer.

Eric McGurn, Fire Department Captain (retired): Graduated Class of 1973

Eric was a student at Rowland Unified School District in grades K-12. While in high school, he earned his Varsity letters in band and gymnastics and received one of the first Rowland High Staff Scholarship awards. He earned his Associate Degree in Fire Science in 1975, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Administration in 1981. Eric’s firefighting career started with the U.S. Forest Service in 1975. He transferred to the Camp Pendleton Fire Department in 1978. He has responded to thousands of emergencies including wildland fires, vehicle accidents, medical aids, structure fires and child births. Several of the emergencies he responded to were life-saving situations. He was trained to operate a wide variety of fire department vehicles and was a supervisor on the Hazardous Material Response Team. Eric served as a Captain for the last 22 years of his career and retired in 2009. He continues to give back to his community through volunteer work and motivational speaking at the local high school and college.

Dr. Bruce Rogers – Dentist: Graduated Class of 1980

Both Bruce and his wife Anita graduated from Rowland High and he is the first to say that he was not academically inclined. However, that did not stop Bruce and he went on to graduate from Biola College with a degree in biology and then graduated from Loma Linda University Dental School. Bruce now owns a successful dental practice in Yorba Linda, California and is the founder and director of a free dental clinic in downtown Los Angeles located at the Dream Center, which is a non-profit faith-centered organization that helps people get back on their feet. His passion for volunteer dentistry has also taken him to Nairobi, Kenya and other countries in Africa to provide free dental care to the poorest of the poor. In addition, he mentors dental students through dental schools at UCLA and Western University of Health Services. He has taken several students on his mission trips to Africa to allow them to participate in delivering care to patients under the supervision of dental school faculty.

Mr. Julian Dave White – Owner/President – Web Video Vision: Graduated Class of 1985

Thirty years ago, as ASB President, Dave delivered the welcome speech at the RHS Welcome Back student assembly. Since that time he started a career in the motion picture industry working post production on movies and T.V. shows. In 1998, he founded Web Video Vison. His company produces content in the form of video, website, and graphic design for companies such as FedEx, GE Aircraft Engines, the White House, the Hair Club for Men, and many others. His company has been recognized in Forbes magazine as one of the top companies in the industry. Dave believes in giving back to the community. As such, last year he was on the volunteer committee to plan Rowland High's 50th Jubilee and developed all of the promo videos for the event including in-depth interviews of our principal and all of our past principals to gather the history of Rowland High. He has also been the chairman for every one of his class reunions and is currently volunteering with an organization called High School Inc., which provides college preparation academies. In addition, he volunteers at his church to feed the homeless at Thanksgiving and assists with neighborhood charities and functions.
