Janet Dovidio: Rowland educators call it a career

Congratulations to the retirees in the Rowland Unified School District (RUSD)!

The Board of Trustees recognized them at a presentation on June 26. There were 20 classified retirees and 26 from the certificated staff. The latter group included two administrators, 11 from elementary schools, eight from secondary schools and five from school departments.

The administrative retirees were Steve Hansen and Donna Patrick.

The elementary retirees were Celia Barrios, Lenore Chew, Mary Elam, Lynda Glover, Ana Gonzalez, Nancy Kotanjian, Donald Nelson, Shirley Ness, Deborah Rapp, Jill Smith and Janice Takeda.

The secondary retirees were Susan Ferguson, Linda Hsieh, Stephany Johnson, Robert Levering, Elaine Mason, Toni Olson, Chip Phillips and Cassandra Williams.

The departmental retirees were Joan Chandler, Mary Dunn, Florence Epstein, Nancy Laursen and Sandra Quintana.

The classified retirees were Martha Diaz, Eduardo Gumamit, Arcelia Solorio, Olivia Aragon, Kathleen Delgado, Linda Eddy, Mary Harren, Stephanie Singer, Lori Acosta, Gretchen Bizub and Kerwin Bowser.

The remaining classified retirees were Rebecca Bradshaw, Robert Buonauro, Richard Keller, Olga Luna, Gloria Maio,

Judy Plessel, Esperanza Rivera, Johnny Rodriguez and Antoinette Skidmore.

Thank you to all of the retirees for the many dedicated years of service to RUSD students.

FOR US GRANTS

The Friends of the Rowland Unified Schools (FOR US) Foundation awarded more in grants this year than ever before.

This year's funds totaled $25,012 in grants to 21 district teachers for innovative programs to enhance school studies. This is a $7,000 increase from last year's awards.

Funds are raised at the FOR US annual Casino Night. The total money raised for teacher grants since 1998 is now $177,304.

The foundation also donated $5,000 to the RUSD to purchase instruments for the new Elementary Strings program.
