Rowland High School Seniors Garner More than $1.8 Million Scholarships and Grants

Rowland High School Senior Awards Night: More than 120 seniors from Rowland High School were recognized Monday night, June 3, 2013 at Senior Awards Night. The evening celebrated those students that received special recognitions, awards, scholarships, the Senior Seminar Certificates, IB Diploma Candidates, International Thespians and Athletic/Academic Scholarships and Grants. 

Rowland High School Principal Mitch Brunyer said, “We are proud of our entire senior class, which altogether has garnered more than $1.8 million in scholarships and grants.”

Alex Phillips (pictured with Megan Van Alstine) received the Janice Lee Memorial Scholarship (as well as the U.S. Army Scholar Athlete Award, Rowland High School PTSA Award and Michael Koyfman Memorial Scholarship).

Alex Chen, IB Diploma Candidate, was one of the biggest award winners of the night (pictured with RHS Vice Principal Bob Withers) winning more than $70,000 in scholarships (including Edison International Scholarship, First General Bank Scholarship, Best Buy @ 15 Scholarship, Dr. Benjamin Carson Scholar, Charles N. Fisher Memorial Scholarship and Operation Safe Communities Scholarship.) Alex is still deciding between attending USC, UCLA or UC Berkeley.

Martiza Abarca (pictured with Assistant Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rosemary Aguilar) was the recipient of the first Dr. Maria Ott Scholarship for a student who is entering the field of education.

Michelle Wang, IB Diploma Candidate, (pictured with RHS Teacher Yuri Koyfman) was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and winner of the Michael Koyfman Memorial Scholarship. Michelle also received the Berkeley Regency Scholarship (full ride to Berkeley) but will be attending her dream school - California Institute of Technology.
