LOCAL POLICE, FIRE AND COMMUNITY STAGE DUI ACCIDENT WHERE STUDENTS “DIE”

MAY 10, 2012 -- Days before their Prom, juniors and seniors at Rowland High School were jolted as they experienced a 911 call over their classroom speakers, then walked outside to view a fatal drunk-driving traffic accident outside of their school. Students watched in real time a simulation of a fatal traffic accident that involved their fellow students who drove under the influence of alcohol and the events that follow. Police officers, fire, ambulance, air emergency units and yes, even the morgue with the Grim Reaper is on the scene.

Tomorrow there will be an assembly where students will watch video of the accident and the events that follow… students arrested and booked and the injured taken to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Baldwin Park with interviews of students and families. Assembly ends with a presentation by MADD.

The “Every 15 Minutes” program is a massive coordination of resources and it is one of the most impactful programs brought to the Rowland Unified School District, coordinated by its own School Police Department. Rowland Unified would like to thank the team of many local agencies, businesses and individuals that came together to make this event happen, including: Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station, Santa Fe Springs Office of the California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 145, Mercy Air, State Farm Insurance, Olive Garden Restaurant, Casa Alvarez Restaurant, Royal Coaches Towing,  AMR Ambulance Service, Kaiser Permanente Hospital - Baldwin Park, Quality Inn & Suites - Walnut, Custer Christiansen Mortuary, Pavilion Florist, Speed Zone, the Rowland Unified School District Board, Administration, RUSD School Police Department, Rowland School District Transportation,  Rowland High School staff and community.
