CELEBRATION FOR BLANDFORD ELEMENTARY'S MODERNIZED SCHOOL, NEW LABS AND LIBRARY MAY 12
ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – MAY 11, 2011 – In a grass roots effort, the community surrounding Blandford Elementary has raised more than $25,000 in funds and books to open a new library, and has helped modernize the entire school thanks to their support of the Measure R Bond. The school-wide Grand Opening Celebration will take place Thursday, May 12 at 9 a.m. with student performances, essay readings, and a song from the school’s upcoming musical, “Mulan.” The grand finale will salute those who have served our country and upcoming Memorial Day with children waving more than 700 flags. After the ceremony, the community is invited to tour the school’s three modernized labs and classrooms.
The library’s theme is “Reading Takes You Places,” and features small reading areas, an amphitheater, 10 new student computers and a collection of 12,500 new books, including collections in Mandarin and Spanish. The school is still actively fundraising to reach their goal of 19,000 new books. Modernized classrooms feature new Learning Wall Systems with white boards, multimedia technology/projection screens and tackable wall surfaces. The school has opened a new computer lab with 35 student stations and a Physical Education Lab where students will be taught Yoga during P.E. The third new lab holds science curriculum materials for hands-on discovery and art supplies for the school’s “Meet the Masters” art program, featuring the study of influential historical artists.
