When is a spring break not much of a break? When students spend it preparing for a big state competition.

But that's what students in Rowland Unified sacrificed for the FHA-HERO state meeting on April 4 to 8.

From their awards and comments, students sound glad they took the extra time to prepare for the big event.

Alvarado Intermediate pulled together 22 students to represent the Rowland Heights school. The teens have been raising money to pay for the big bus trip over the past couple months.

The Rowland students met 750 other students from schools around the state in the Fresno Convention Center. The teens would compete in 22 different events.
