Elementary Students in Rowland Learn How to Build with Unique "NAIL YOUR FUTURE" Program

LA PUENTE, CA – MARCH 21, 2011 – With yellow hard hats and tools in hand, 4th – 6th graders at Yorbita Elementary will have the rare opportunity to be on a construction team this Wednesday, March 23 from 3 – 5 p.m. Nail Your Future is a new project by Options Enrichment Program that is focused on giving students a real-world life experience by introducing them to a construction job site with a real boss, tools and high expectations.  In two hours, 25 elementary students will have fun building a 10’x10’ pre-fabricated house designed to teach students how to work in teams to achieve a common goal, while keeping each other safe.  (*Editor’s Note: If raining, event will be rescheduled.)

            “Our goal was to integrate math and science curriculum students are learning in school in a fun, hands-on way and to also expose students to future career fields,” said Melissa Reed, Options Education Coordinator. “You see kids who struggle at school just dive in and love this project. Nail Your Future will also be at Villacorta, Rorimer, Hollingworth, Giano and Rincon schools in Rowland Unified.”
