ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – NOVEMBER 10, 2010 – Rowland High School Band Director Jason Alvo and the award-winning Raider Regiment Band have been selected as one of the top 14 bands from around the world to perform in “The Hollywood Christmas Parade Benefiting Marine Toys for Tots,” with Grand Marshal Larry King, on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. The World Premiere telecast of the parade will appear on the Hallmark Channel on Friday, December 10.

            This is the first appearance for the 180-member Raider Regiment that will perform a medley of holiday favorites. “This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the students musical talents of Rowland Unified School District and Rowland High School,” said Alvo. PHOTO OPP: The Raider Regiment will rehearse Monday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 17 from 3:30 p.m. at Rowland High School.  To reach Director Jason Alvo, call (626)965-3437 ext. 3297.
           Rowland High School is also proud to be an official Collection Center for Toys for Tots, the charity for this year’s Hollywood Christmas Parade. The community is invited to make a difference in a child’s life by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy to Rowland High School daily from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. until December 16.        
            The Hollywood Christmas Parade, an American tradition for more than 80 years, will be taped for multiple telecasts throughout December. With the Parade’s World Premiere on The Hallmark Channel, and an encore on Hallmark Movie Channel, this year’s parade will be available to the largest television audience in its history.

            Actor Erik Estrada (“World’s Funniest Moments”, “CHiPs”) and Television Host Laura McKenzie (“World’s Funniest Moments”, “Laura McKenzie’s Traveler”) will serve as parade broadcast hosts which will feature celebrities from film, television and stage, award-winning bands, colorful equestrians, floats and specialty characters.  As always, the grand finale of the parade features an appearance by Santa Claus.

            PARADE ROUTE: Starting at Hollywood Blvd and Orange, the U-shaped Parade Route will travel east to Vine, south on Vine to Sunset Boulevard and west on Sunset, back to Orange. For more information, visit www.thehollywoodchristmasparade.com

             The Rowland Raider Regiment, under the direction of Jason Alvo, includes the award-winning marching band, concert band, color guard, dance team, drum line and jazz band. The Raider Regiment will perform in nine tournaments this year; various drum line, dance and jazz competitions.
