FOR US FOUNDATION GRANTS STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND INNOVATIVE SUMMER ARTS CAMP
ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA Local students can sing and dance thanks to scholarships awarded by The Friends of Rowland Unified Schools (FOR US) Foundation. Each year, FOR US provides 10 student scholarships to attend the Summer Arts Academy of Rowland Unified, a rewarding program where students experience the liberating feeling of self-expression through music, dance, art, and drama. These scholarships allow children from low income families to participate in the fun, enriching classes that are taking place now through July 1.  (*Media is invited to come take pictures of Summer Art students in action daily Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon at Hollingworth Elementary, 3003 E. Hollingworth Street, West Covina. On June 30 at 5 p.m. a Gallery Night will take place showcasing student artwork and performances. The Summer Arts program runs through July 1.)

In addition to these summer scholarships, the FOR US Foundation awards approximately 20 classroom grants each school year. These grants help teachers enhance student curriculum in biology, chemistry, history, technology, physical education, and the arts. At a time when schools are in crisis, these grants allow teachers in Rowland Unified Schools to provide fun, creative educational opportunities that school budgets cannot afford.

The Foundation recently established a graduating senior scholarship fund for Nogales, Rowland, and Santana High Schools. A senior from each high school will receive a $500 scholarship toward college expenses.

Every March, the Foundation hosts “Boots-N-Spurs Evening Round-Up” Casino Night, its only fundraising event. Income from Casino Night is the sole source of funding for the classroom grants and scholarships awarded by the Foundation. The public is invited to next year’s event on March 25, 2011.

Established in 1997, the Foundation is a community-based non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the education of students in Rowland Unified schools. Since its inception, the FOR US Foundation has awarded over $200,000 in grants and scholarships that stimulate children to think, explore, create, and stay in school.
