ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – DECEMBER 14, 2020 – Rowland Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Julie Mitchell presented the Oath of Office to newly elected Board Member Erik Venegas and re-elected, unopposed Board Member David M. Malkin on December 11, 2020. Both will serve the Rowland Unified School District community through December of 2024.

This election the Rowland Unified School District transitioned to the By-Trustee Area process. Each Board member must reside within a designated trustee-area boundary and is elected by the voters in that trustee area. Erik Venegas is a representative from Trustee Area 2 and David Malkin is a representative from Trustee Area 4.

Venegas is a proud RUSD parent and is a supporter of academics, arts and athletics. He was an involved parent volunteer at Nogales High School for numerous activities, including dance, tennis, the Senior Seminar Career Pathways Program and on the WASC Accreditation Committee. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona and Master’s in Business Administration. He currently works as an engineer in the Aerospace Industry supporting production for Commercial, Military, and Defense industries.

“I am humbled and very honored to be elected as a board member.  I would like to thank my family for their support.  Especially my daughter, who encouraged me to run.  She became my number one supporter, campaign manager, and social media guru. My goal here is to support  the community. I look forward to further participating in and sharing with the community the amazing educational opportunities we provide to students,” said Venegas.

The Rowland Unified School District has garnered numerous state and national awards, most recently 2020 California Distinguished Schools Blandford Elementary, Killian Elementary and Ybarra Academy of Arts and Technology, and 2020 Seal of Excellence Award for Bilingual Education to Hurley Elementary. RUSD is proud of its 19 schools with 13,200 students in the communities of Rowland Heights, Walnut, La Puente, City of Industry, and West Covina.
