This was a season of firsts for the Rowland High School girls tennis team.
The Raiders, under first-year coach Kelley Wong, a former Rowland star herself, won the San Antonio League for the first time and made their way into the CIF-Southern Section divisional semifinals for the first time, advancing further than any team in the area.
Two keys were Wong, who found the right mix of talent and chemistry to get Rowland to succeed, and sophomore Vivian Chau, who came up big during the most opportune time - the postseason.
For their efforts, Wong is the Tribune girls tennis Coach of the Year and Chau is Player of the Year.
The rest of the first team includes singles players Mariel Bautista of Rowland, Alexis Valenzuela of West Covina and Melody Chen of Diamond Bar; and doubles players Tiffany Chang and Tiffany Chang of Rowland, Jenny Kavak and Danielle Cooney of St. Lucy's, and Lauren Finke and Patricia Chu of Arroyo.
