Rowland Unified is proud of its four National Blue Ribbon Schools, 16 California Distinguished School Awards and numerous state and national award-winning programs. Rowland is one of the few Districts to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program at both of its high schools – at Nogales High School and Rowland High School. The rigorous global curriculum focuses on developing inquiring, caring young people who embrace their own culture and are open to world views. Both high schools also offer the pioneering Career Certification Program, where students can study one of six career pathways: Arts & Communications, Business, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health & Medical Services, Public & Human Services, and Technology.

Also unique to Rowland is the Apple Laptop 1 to 1 Learning Program at Oswalt and Ybarra Academies, the first public schools in the San Gabriel Valley to offer the program where teachers and students in 5th, 6th and now 7th grade have 24/7 access to educational tools with their own Apple Laptop computers. Enormous academic growth has been seen and the innovative program has brought visits by schools across the state and region.

Rowland has a strong commitment to the arts and is one of the few Districts to offer instrumental music in all of its elementary, middle and high schools. The Elementary Instrumental Program begins with strings in 4th grade and band and jazz band in 5th grade. 2010 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Elementary Instrumental program.

The Rowland Unified School District is proud to serve 17,500 students at 23 elementary and secondary schools in the communities of Rowland Heights, Walnut, West Covina, La Puente and City of Industry. Permits allow students from other communities to attend our schools. More than 5,000 adults (16+) are also served by the Rowland Adult and Community Education School.
