ROWLAND HEIGHTS - One hundred kids at Fajardo Elementary on Friday helped their principal resurrect her old career from the dead.

Principal and former dance instructor Elaine McCauley led the students in the choreographed "Thriller" dance routine from pop star Michael Jackson's 1982 music video.

The dance did not go perfectly, but it was still a lot of fun, McCauley said.
Fifth-grade student and dancer David Villagrana, 10, said he had seen the video before.

"I like the song with the music video," he said. "It was a little bit creepy."
Students trained for a month to learn the ghoulish routine, which was Jackson's musical/dancing take on campy horror movies.

It was performed in front of parents at the school's Fall Carnival.

Although it was the school's first choreographed show, dancing at the school isn't uncommon, McCauley said.

During physical education time, "sometimes we would have a station called dancing with the principal," she said.
