COMMUNITY LEADERS PROVIDE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
AT ANNUAL “PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY” EVENT FEBRUARY 27
Educator/Entrepreneur/Author Ann Marie Smith Guest Speaker at Principal for a Day Event
CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA – Business and community leaders from across the San Gabriel Valley will learn what it is like to be a school principal as they support schools and provide high school scholarships at the annual “Principal for a Day” event set for February 27, 2019. Schools in the Bassett, Hacienda La Puente, Rowland Unified School Districts, and the La Puente Valley Regional Occupational Program will open their doors and invite community leaders to be “guest” principals that morning. A complimentary invitee luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Industry Hills Expo Center Pavilion with featured keynote speaker Educator/Entrepreneur/Author Ann Marie Smith (pictured above). Smith is a 35-year veteran educator and entrepreneur, an alumna of Rowland Unified and has been an educational leader in both Hacienda La Puente and Bassett Unified School Districts. She is the CEO of 15 companies with more than 600 employees. She has mastered how to connect with people in a way that brings out the best in them and teaches teams how to become servant leaders. She is a contributing author with Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul National bestselling author) in his upcoming book “The Success Formula,” due out this spring. She is also launching her own franchise of books, with her first one to debut this summer.
Smith looks forward to welcoming business leaders and congratulating the 14 Principal for a Day student scholarship winners (10 high school, three Adult Education scholarships and one ROP), who will be recognized at the event and presented with $400 scholarships, thanks to corporate sponsors.
A complimentary luncheon is provided for guest principals, with entertainment by the Rowland Unified School District Honor Orchestra, under the direction of Music Teacher, Jonathan Chen. The event Masters of Ceremonies will be Dr. Julie Mitchell, Superintendent of Rowland Unified School District and Anthony Duarte, CEO of the Regional Chamber of Commerce, San Gabriel Valley.

“Guest principals” tour elementary, intermediate, and high schools – as well as adult schools – in the communities of Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, La Puente, City of Industry, Walnut, and West Covina.
11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY AWARDS LUNCHEON (Industry Hills Expo Center Pavilion at 16200 Temple Ave., City of Industry)
Considered the region’s most comprehensive annual community outreach program for more than two decades, “Principal for a Day” is a business and education partnership. The event features a partnership between local education agencies along with the Regional Chamber of Commerce San Gabriel Valley and the La Puente Valley Regional Occupational Program.
