Dear Rowland Unified Family:

It is now clear from all sources that California and the nation are in a recession, and it could be, potentially, the most severe since the Great Depression. The Department of Finance estimated that California's two-year budget shortfall has increased from the November estimate of $28 billion to $41.6 billion.

The State's budget and cash flow crisis will have a negative impact on all Districts across California. Immediate steps need to be taken to protect our fiscal solvency. At this time, it looks like our District will see, over the next two years, a loss of revenue of more than $12 million dollars. We will keep you updated as information is constantly changing.

We thank you for being proactive and working with us to reduce expenditures now, rather then being totally subject to across-the-board reductions later.

Sincerely,

Maria G. Ott, Ph.D.
Superintendent
