"We believe education is bigger than the standards. We believe that students should know and believe that they can succeed. We believe that we have a passion for learning and it is our responsibility to pass that on to students. We believe that students should know that they are loved by someone."
                                                            -- Yorbita School Beliefs

Dear Yorbita Families,
Welcome to the 2009/2010 school year to all of our new and returning Yorbita families. I am proud and honored to be the principal of such an outstanding elementary school. The quote above states the core beliefs that drive our staff as Yorbita educators. When your child is a Yorbita Cheetah, you can be assured that not only is he/she receiving a high quality education, but will also be surrounded by adults who truly care about his/her well being. Yorbita Cheetahs are also instilled with the value of the Big R: Responsible, Respectful, and Ready to Learn!
During spring 2009, all students in grades 2-6 were assessed through the California STAR testing program. We should all be very proud of our teachers and students for all of their hard work and effort because our student achievement scores have been improving every single year since the start of No Child Left Behind. This year, our API score is 784-that is 169 points growth since 2001 and 26 points growth since last year! If there are any questions or concerns regarding the STAR testing or our school status, please feel free to contact me. In addition, the Yorbita staff together with the School Site Council will discuss the findings and implications of last year’s goals and achievements in order to adjust our school plan for this school year.
As a school, test scores are one measure used to confirm our progress. Here at Yorbita, we are also interested in qualitative data-such as the relationships fostered between students, teachers, and families. In addition to our strong academic program, we will continue with a wealth of enrichment programs such as drama and art club, after-school sports, Accelerated Math and Reading, and a state of the art technology lab. I want to assure you that Yorbita is the right choice!
                                                                                 Sincerely,
                                                                                  Erika Krohn, Principal
