Jellick Elementary is an outstanding community school. Pride, professionalism, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of students best describes the faculty and staff. When you combine this with strong and committed parents, it is no wonder we get the wonderful students who attend Jellick. In order for our nation to address the challenges of the future, we need to invest in our students today. Jellick does this by focusing on challenging academic standards, collaboration, relationship building, and creative thinking. Our faculty demonstrates a willingness to continuously examine our instructional practice and find the most effective methods to improve student learning.
Since opening its doors, Jellick has been committed to its vision of high achievement and excellence.
Recognizing the ever changing needs of our students and community, Jellick continues to strive to be on the cutting edge of technology. Recently, Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina’s office provided funds for Jellick to become the first school in the area to have a wireless Community Technology Center and Home Laptop Computer Program.
In April of 2007, Jellick Elementary School opened a state of the art Wonder of Reading Library. Our library is open after school on Thursdays so that students as well as their families will have access to our large collection of books in both English and various native languages.
In 2004, Jellick received recognition as one of California’s Top Ranked public schools. The award was based on significant growth in student achievement in language arts and math.
The Community of Caring values of Respect, Responsibility, Trust, Caring and Family permeate Jellick’s campus with the support of the staff, parents and students.
All students have access to State adopted textbooks in the core subjects. A well organized and maintained bookroom provides all students access to a wide range of appropriately leveled reading materials.
Our school-wide Title 1 program provides a Before-School Homework Club in which eligible students in grades 3-6 receive additional assistance.
Jellick is committed to providing students with all around educational opportunities including our after school sports programs, piano lessons, band, chorus, and our string instrument program.
Maintaining schools which students and parents can be proud of and feel secure about are a priority for our District. Through PTA fund raising, Jellick Elementary continued to enhance its learning environment with a landscape redesign program adding two reading gardens. Using funds from Measure R, Jellick will continue to have its facilities improved and maintained ensuring students an optimal environment for learning
Jellick PTA is active in providing enhancing activities and facilities, and opportunities for all students. Field trips, special assemblies, materials for classrooms, assistance to teachers and students are supported by GATE students are challenged in classrooms by providing breadth and range in the major curricular areas. In addition, specially designed and coordinated study units on a wide range of topics such as bridge building, computer programming, mazes, chess, magic and storytelling are provided beyond the instructional day.
Jellick students participate in weekly lessons on keyboarding, word processing, practice in phonics, math and high-level thinking in the computer laband in the classroom.
Students in grades 1-6 participate in the computer-based reading motivation program, Accelerated Reader. Jellick has increased its school-wide and classroom libraries with research and independent reading materials.
Special Features and Programs
Through ‘Coins for Caring,’ Jellick Elementary has raised money to assist needy causes such as: a New York school displaced by the tragic events of 9/11, Red Cross efforts for families affected by local wild fires, Hurricane Katrina, and most recently the tragedy in Haiti.
We support needy families through donations to the holiday basket programs, Community of Caring Clothes Closet, and referrals for our needy families in the areas of health, dental, and vision care.
Local authorities have continued to provide support services for gang prevention and safety issues in the community.
