The Board of Education took action June 8, 2010 to close two of our elementary schools – Farjardo and La Seda – for the 2010-11 school year due to the impact of the state budget and continued declining enrollment. The majority of districts across California are experiencing declines in student population as families follow job opportunities, especially to areas where housing is more affordable.
Farjardo and La Seda Elementary Schools will be utilized to house students from other schools during the District’s bond modernization process. This is a fiscally responsible way to save local bond funds needed to upgrade our schools. Using the closed schools during modernization saves the cost of renting temporary facilities. Also, both schools will continue to be used for children during the modernization of the remaining schools over the next three years.
