John Roach named interim superintendent at Rowland Unified

John Roach, new interim superintendent at Rowland Unified School District 

The new interim superintendent started this week at Rowland Unified School District. The board of education selected educational consultant John Roach to fill the top spot, while they look for another superintendent.

He owns John Roach & Associates, an educational and leadership consulting firm. Roach is also an adjunct professor at USC, where he teaches courses in leadership and accountability.

“The board is delighted to have Dr. John A. Roach join the Rowland Unified School District. Dr. Roach comes with a broad range of experiences to assist the district during this transition process,” said Board President Heidi L. Gallegos in a press release.

Roach will work on a part-time basis, putting in three days a week during the summer months. He will helm the district while it looks for a permanent superintendent.

The local school district plans to close applications on July 11. After studying the candidates, the board will hold interviews in August. It expects to hire a new superintendent in September.

Meanwhile, Roach will run Rowland Unified. He served as superintendent of Carlsbad Unified School District from 2004-12 and at Charter Oak Unified from 1998-2004. Roach was also an administrator in Brea Olinda Unified and East Whittier City School Districts.

The interim superintendent serves on the Dean’s Superintendents Advisory Group at USC. He is also a member of he Association of California School Administrators Association, where he was a charter president and served on several state committees.

Roach earned a doctorate in educational administration from USC and a master’s degree in English from Loyola Marymount University.
