Community Leaders Take Part in Annual Principal for a Day Event March 8

COMMUNITY LEADERS INVITED TO TAKE PART IN ANNUAL “PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY” EVENT THAT SUPPORTS HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS 

Special Guest Speaker Emily Williams 

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA  – FEBRUARY 28, 2017 Business and community leaders from across the San Gabriel Valley are invited to support local student scholarships and experience first-hand what it is like to be a school leader at the unique “Principal for a Day” event on March 8, 2017. Community members are invited to be “guest principals” in the morning at schools across Bassett, Hacienda La Puente, and Rowland Unified School Districts, and the La Puente Valley Regional Occupational Program. Attendees are then invited to attend a complimentary luncheon where the special guest speaker will be Emily Williams, public speaker, trainer and specialist in workforce development.

Thanks to corporate sponsors, there are 14 high school career scholarships presented at the Principal for a Day Luncheon, held at 11:30 a.m. at the Industry Hills Expo Center in the City of Industry. Music Entertainment will be presented by the Nogales High School Choir, under the direction of Aaron Rodriguez. Emily C. Williams provides consulting, training, and public speaking services through her company, Emily Presents.  With more than 22 years of experience, she speaks and trains most frequently on the topics of change management, communications, conflict management, diversity, interpersonal relations, leadership, and organizational development. She has worked for the City of Los Angeles as a Policy Advisor coordinating public safety programs for neighborhoods and schools, and the Los Angeles Fire Department, creating and managing the department’s Human Relations & Leadership Training Section. She also served as Deputy Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Tony Cárdenas during his last three years as a Los Angeles City Councilmember.

The Principal for a Day Event Schedule is below:

8 a.m. – 11 a.m.             PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY MORNING SCHOOL TOURS

“Guest principals” are assigned to tour public schools in the communities of Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, La Puente, City of Industry, Walnut and West Covina.

11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.           PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY AWARDS LUNCHEON

(Industry Hills Expo Center - Pavilion - 16200 Temple Avenue, City of Industry)

A complimentary luncheon is provided for guest principals, with entertainment by the Nogales High School Choir, under the direction of Aaron Rodriguez. The luncheon guest speaker will be Emily Williams and 14 high school scholarships in the amount of $400 will be presented to senior students from the Basset, Hacienda La Puente, Rowland Unified School Districts and La Puente Valley ROP.

Considered the region’s most comprehensive annual community outreach program for more than two decades, “Principal for a Day” is a business and education partnership. The event features a partnership between local education agencies and the Regional Chamber of Commerce of San Gabriel Valley.
