SAFE COMMUNITIES FESTIVAL AT NEW

 ROWLAND HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CENTER APRIL 18

The community is invited to attend the 23rd Annual Safe Communities Health and Safety Festival on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year the location has moved to Pathfinder Park to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Rowland Heights Community Center. The Safe Communities Festival features more than 25 health and information booths, complimentary food and entertainment, public safety displays and demonstrations by community groups, Rowland Unified schools and public service organizations. The Festival celebrates the role all facets of the community plays in promoting a safe, secure and healthy environment for all to enjoy.

 

Schedule of Events

10 AM

Grand Opening Celebration for the Rowland Heights Community Center.

11 AM           

Welcome by Dr. Julie Mitchell, Superintendent of the Rowland Unified School District. Presentations of Safe Communities Week RUSD student poster design contest winners, along with recipients of the Operation Safe Community Service Award Scholarship, presented to high school students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and community involvement with focus on service to others. Awarded by Operations Safe Community Co-Chairs: Jennifer Kottke, Nancy Ballantyne and Chief Don Fernald.

NOON            

Performance by the Rowland Unified School District Mariachi, featuring students in 3rd – 10th grade from across the District under the direction of Mr. Mark Anderson and Mr. Humberto Talavera.

1:15 PM        

“JAWS of Life” public safety demonstration from the California Highway Patrol.

The event is sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe’s Office, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department/Southeast Recreation District, California Highway Patrol – Santa Fe Springs Office, Operation Safe Community, the Rowland Unified School District and the Rowland Unified School District Safety and Drug Alcohol Tobacco Education (DATE) Program.

The Safe Communities Festival features health and safety booths with free eye exams, complimentary chair massages, giveaways, family and health support and promotion services, parenting and after-school programs, summer youth programs, information booths on saving energy and water conservation and preparedness and ways to access vital programs in the Rowland Heights community.
